BHANGRA NICHE vs MOVIEBOX (13-01-10)
Bhangra Niche vs. Moviebox, let’s take a closer look…
In the red corner we have Niche, and in the blue corner we have Moviebox. What do these two heavy weight music institutions have in common, I hear you ask?
Could it be that for many years they’ve represented their own scenes faithfully above all odds? Or is it that they’ve invested time and money in what they believed in and are not afraid to accept new challenges? Or have they taken a Dragons Den approach and decided maybe to work as partners on a project which could be a good business opportunity for them? Well the answer is all three!
Without further a do, let’s hear about their forthcoming project “ANTHEMS” Volume One.
I’m sure this title speaks for itself to the people in the know. For the people not in the know, here is a brief description of this major collaboration.
Niche (bassline) = bassline house/organ/grime/4x4/2step/speed garage/funky.
Bhangra = Punjabi folk/dance/Britasian music representing south Asian music and culture worldwide.
Put these two together and you get the name Bhangra Niche (refer to www.nicheuk.com).
This deep urban/desi style was introduced last year by Niche and as anticipated made waves in the music industry, and due to public demand, the culprits are back again with another helping of Bhangra Niche and their forthcoming Desi Niche. Jamie Duggan, Mr. V, Da Booda, Delinquent, Moss Da Boss, Terri Mardi, Shaun Banger Scott, DS1, Freddo, Bhang Bro`s to mention but a few are the producers in the Niche camp.
Now collaborating with the biggest Bhangra record label to date (Moviebox), with their magic and successes, undoubtedly there will be some Bhangra giants on this project, you can be sure of that!
With the backing of Moviebox and its amazing roster of artists (too many to mention) and their labels such as Kamlee Records, Genie Records & the massive Multitone Records that it controls, this project is sure to make some noise. Niche aren’t virgins to joint ventures and have already had a successful partnership with Ministry of Sound on the ‘Sound of Bassline’ albums, both compilations have hit Gold even in a recession and are still speedily climbing... Volume 3 will be out this year!
“People had thought we’d gone away after the first BhangraNiche compilation but what they didn’t know was we were just waiting patiently for our turn and observing for when to strike.”
Moss Da Boss
“When Moss & Tan first approached me I was a bit unsure if this sound would work with our music, but when I heard some of their past & present material I was definitely ready to experiment with their style and incorporate our artists and recordings. After listening to there forthcoming single “If I Was Your Girl” on (Desi Niche) out 2010, I was definitely very impressed with their capabilities as this single is definitely one of the best new tracks that I have heard recently. I feel this collaboration to be very unique and will only compliment the Bhangra scene and also demonstrate Moviebox are to be seen thinking out of the Box.”
